The City of Toledo’s budget is a mess. A recent investigation by The Toledo Blade discovered that city leaders lost track of $8.2 million, which had sat unused for at least 5 years. This means that when the politicians in City Hall asked voters to increase the ¾% tax last year, there was $8.2 million in the budget that they either didn’t know about – or knew about but didn’t tell us. Either is unacceptable.
One of Wade’s opponents is the current Mayor, and the other is the Vice Chairman of City Council’s Finance Committee. This crisis happened on their watch. As County Treasurer, Wade balances $500 million of taxpayer money to the penny, and he will bring this badly needed fiscal discipline to the Mayor’s office. He also plans to implement a Toledo Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights based on transparency, accountability, and a professional and responsible accounting of City money.
