Road Repairs

Building roads that work is Mayor Wade’s commitment, now and in the future.

The Toledo roads levy produced a 15x increase in road repairs – from 7 roads resurfaced in 2020 to 109 roads in 2021.

Nothing is more aggravating than streets filled with potholes and roads that wreck your vehicle.  For far too long, Toledoans have suffered from some of the worst roads in Ohio, especially in residential neighborhoods where state and federal funding cannot be spent.  Mayor Kapszukiewicz was unwilling to wait any longer to invest in ourselves and fix our roads.

Under Wade’s leadership, Toledo’s 1/4% income tax for roads was approved, creating over $19 million each year dedicated to road improvements. Toledo will repave 42.04 miles of residential roads in 2021, up from 1.64 in 2019 and 2.88 in 2020. The average mileage of residential roads repaved from 2009 to 2020 was only 13 miles.

Major roadway construction projects in 2020 included 2.85 lane miles of Douglas Road reconstruction from Alexis Road to Laskey Road and 7.37 lane miles of Alexis Road resurfacing from the western city limits to Jackman Road.

The major roadway construction projects planned for 2021 include 9.5 lane miles street resurfacing of Dorr Street from Reynolds Road to Byrne Road; 2.50 lanes miles reconstruction of Bennett Road from Laskey Road to Alexis Road, and 3.6 lane miles resurfacing of Jefferson Avenue from Collingwood Boulevard to Summit Street. With recovery funds from the Biden Administration, Toledo will also be able to make even more investments in “complete” streets, ensuring that cars, bicycles, buses, and pedestrians have a safe, functional, and efficient way to use our public infrastructure.

After decades of kicking the can down the road, Toledo is finally fixing the residential streets of our city.
